ROCHESTER – Police captured a local man after he allegedly robbed George and Ed's convenience store earlier this morning.

Benjamin Shannon, 34, of 2 Jackson St. Apt. 3, was charged with robbery and obstructing government administration.

Police responded around 8 a.m. after a clerk reported that a man wielding a silver handgun demanded money from the register. He took an undisclosed amount and fled on foot, heading north along North Main Street.

The Maple Street School and Saint Elizabeth Seton School were both placed in a "soft lockdown" for less than two hours while officers, with the help of the department's K-9 team, searched the area.

After investigating throughout the day, police arrested Shannon, who was held on $25,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned via video tomorrow Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the 7th Circuit District Division Rochester Court.
