PEMBROKE — For Tammy Boucher, winning the opportunity to renew her wedding vows at center ice during a Manchester Monarchs game was memorable.
“It was also a bit of a mess,” said Boucher, of Pembroke.
That’s because Boucher and her husband of 11 years, Steve, beat out SallyAnn and Marc Trepanier of Merrimack in a doughnut eating contest Friday night for the grand prize in the “Twice as Nice on Ice” contest, sponsored by the Monarchs, WZID and Bellman Jewelers.
“We were each given a heart-shaped doughnut, filled with brownie batter,” said Boucher. “We had to eat it without using our hands, and do it quicker than the other couple. We finished the doughnut in less than a minute, but we were a mess when it was over.”
The Bouchers emerged victorious from the contest, winning a pair of diamond and ruby stud earrings, valued at $2,500, courtesy of Bellman Jewelers, as well as the chance to renew their wedding vows at center ice during Friday night’s game between the Monarchs and the Worcester Sharks.
Boucher and other couples had a week to submit entries saying why they should be chosen for the honor. The staff at the Monarchs and Bellman’s narrowed the field to five finalists. Photos and stories of each were posted on Bellman’s Facebook page for a week until the two couples with the most likes were selected.
WZID’s Mike Morin officiated the vow renewal ceremony.
“We had submitted information to him prior to the game, so the vows he used were actually personalized for us, and pretty funny,” said Boucher. “He did a great job. We had some friends and family there in the stands, and we could hear some people laughing and cheering.”
Boucher said she couldn’t have picked a better spot to renew her vows.
“I consider myself a hockey widow, my husband is always going to games,” said Boucher. “We talked about renewing our vows last year for our 10th anniversary, but then life happened and we never did. So this was a great chance to make it happen, and what a great spot for it.”
The Bouchers are 20-game season ticketholders.
