Plaistow teen injured in Atkinson snowmobile accident

ATKINSON - A Plaistow teenager was injured Sunday while operating a snowmobile in Atkinson.

According to NH Fish and Game District 5 Chief Lt. James Juneau, the boy, 14, was hurt about 4 p.m. when he lost control of the snowmobile on Big Island Pond and hit a rock retaining wall on the shore.

Witnesses said the teen was thrown off the snowmobile and landed in snow just to the left of where the machine hit the retaining wall. The boy, whose name was not released, was riding with his parents and other family members at the time.

Fire and police personnel, along with state Fish and officers, responded to the 911 call. The victim was transported by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were termed 'minor.'

Juneau said the teen was wearing a full-face helmet at the time of the accident, which remains under investigation.
