Police investigating another possible heroin overdose in Salem

SALEM — Police are investigating the apparent heroin overdose death of a 28-year-old woman at the Red Roof Inn early Thursday morning.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m., police and fire personnel responded to the Red Roof Inn off Pelham Road. Officers had to force their way into the room, according to Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten.

Firefighters tried to revive the unconscious and unresponsive woman found in the room but were unsuccessful.

Salem detectives as well as the state’s medical examiner responded to the room, and detectives found what appeared to be heroin and drug paraphernalia, according to Patten.

Detectives are still investigating the incident, and police are not releasing the woman’s name pending notification of next of kin.

The overdose comes on the heels of a number of drug arrests made by Salem police.

Salem detectives received information from and worked with Manchester detectives to take two people into custody on Wednesday for allegedly attempting to sell 50 grams of heroin to undercover police officers.

Leonela Delacruz, 20, and Reynaldo Dejesus-Sanchez, 32, both of Lawrence, were taken into custody for the felony sale of heroin and later transported to Rockingham County jail pending arraignment.

A little after midnight on Thursday, Pelham police arrested Michael Taylor, 24, of Pelham on Salem warrants for the sale and transportation of Oxycontin. Salem police took Taylor into custody, and he was later released on $10,000 cash bail.

On Jan. 27, police responded to a report of a drug overdose on Ticklefancy Lane, where emergency personnel found two people in a car in a driveway who were unresponsive. On Jan. 28, police responded to an apparent drug overdose on Bluff Street.
