Police probe leads to seizure of drugs, four arrests

Michael McManus

Amanda Gurley

MANCHESTER — A joint operation by Manchester and Salem police resulted in the seizure of 26 grams of heroin, a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and more than $1,000 in cash, as well as four arrests Wednesday.

The investigation by the Special Enforcement Division of the Manchester Police Department led to the issuance of search warrants for the vehicle and the 14 Beech Hill Drive residence of Michael McManus, 34.

McManus was stopped driving a vehicle at South Willow Street and March Avenue and charged with possession of a narcotic with intent to distribute and habitual offender.

At McManus' residence, officers executing another search warrant found drug paraphernalia, marijuana and more than $1.000 in cash with the help of a Manchester K-9 trained in drug detection.

Amanda Gurley, 24, also of the Beech Hill Drive address, was charged with possession of a controlled drug.

Shortly after officers executed the search warrant at Beech Hill Drive, Salem Police Department officers stopped a motor vehicle in the Rockingham Mall parking lot, based on prior intelligence reports about the two individuals in it being involved in the drug operation.

The vehicle was seized and detectives obtained a search warrant for it.

The driver, Reynaldo Dejesus-Sanchez, 32, of Lawrence, Mass., and Leonela Delacruz, 21, were charged with conspiracy for possession with intent to distribute. Delacruz was also charged with possession of a controlled drug after she was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

McManus was arraigned Thursday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division, where bail was set at $10,000 cash/surety, with a hearing on the source of any funds offered for bail. A probable cause hearing was set for Feb. 25.

Gurley was released on $500 personal recognizance bail.

Dejesus-Sanchez and Delacruz were booked in Salem and will be processed in Circuit Court-Salem District Division.
