Two Hooksett councilors seek school board seats

HOOKSETT — Town Councilors James Sullivan and Todd Lizotte are seeking one of the five school board seats up for grabs this March.

Current board members Trisha Korkosz and Phil Denbow have registered to run for reelection; board member Cheryl Akstin has not.

"I am very grateful for everything the Hooksett School District has done for my children, and by serving on the school board I feel I am giving back to the community that has given me so much," Korkosz said.

Of the five seats, three are for three-year terms, one is a two-year term, and one is for one year.

Running for one of the three-year terms are Korkosz, Sullivan, Jason Hyde, Amy Boilard, Mike Berry, Rebbeca Berk and Jack Sweeney.

Sullivan, who is currently council chairman, has previously sat on the school board. He said if elected, he hopes he can bring some stability to the board.

Hyde has been a vocal critic and regular attendee at school board meetings, including one incident where he was removed from the meeting under police escort. Sweeney is a member of the High School Warrant Article Committee, created by the school board to help craft the district's message regarding the upcoming vote on the proposed 10-year high school sending contract with Pinkerton Academy.

Running for the two-year term are Lizotte and Preston. Preston currently sits on the High School Warrant Article Committee.

For the one-year term, Denbow will be running for his seat against Joanne McHugh. Denbow was appointed by the school board in 2013 to fill a seat that had been vacated halfway through its term.

Board members David Pearl and John Lyscars' seats are not up for election.
