Contract for teachers to be debated Saturday in Hudson
HUDSON -- With a number of employee contracts up for debate, Hudson school officials are hoping for a better turnout at this year's school deliberative session.
The meeting is scheduled for Saturday morning at 9 a.m. inside the Hudson Community Center.
According to the Hudson Town Clerk's office, fewer than 100 of the town's 15,564 voters typically attend the meeting.
"If attendance at this meeting follows trends, less than 1 percent of the voters in town will determine what the voting public can consider when going to the polls in March," Superintendent Bryan Lane said.
Those who attend Saturday's deliberative session will have the chance to influence next year's proposed $48,044,494 operating budget, which if passed would have a tax impact of $13.59.
Voters will also weigh in on several proposed collective bargaining agreements, including new contracts with the teachers, custodians and support staff.
Article 2, an agreement between the district and the Hudson Federation of Teachers, would cost $328,334 next year, with an estimated tax impact of 13 cents.
Article 3, an agreement with the administrative workers' union, would cost $82,473 next year, with a tax impact of 3 cents.
Article 4, an agreement with district cafeteria and support staff, would cost $60,469 next year with a 2-cent tax impact.
Article 5, an agreement with the district's secretaries, would cost $19,558 next year with a 1-cent tax impact.
Article 6, an agreement with the district's custodians, would cost $25,866 next year, with a 1-cent tax impact.
The remaining two warrant articles, School Board members said, have no associated costs and ask voters to approve using $400,000 in existing funds to install an elevator at Alvirne High School and to place an existing fund balance of $50,000 into the district's Special Education Trust Fund.
