CONCORD — A Barnstead man was arraigned Friday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division on a charge of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing on Sunday of an 18-year-old girl, who was dumped in Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown.

Kyle Buffum, 22, of 6 Amherst Drive, was arrested Thursday night by Laconia police on an Allenstown police warrant. Allenstown police Chief Paul Paquette said Buffum was arraigned by video from Merrimack County Jail in Boscawen and Judge Gerard Boyle set bail at $500,000 cash.

Samantha Heath, 18, who is accused of stabbing Andrea Halvorsen, was arraigned Monday on a first-degree assault charge. Police said Halvorsen was stabbed 15 times and then pushed from Heath's vehicle.

Assistant Merrimack County Attorney George Waldron said Friday he doesn't yet have all the files related to the case, but said it's likely Heath will face an upgraded charge of attempted murder. She is being held at Merrimack County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.

Waldron said Halvorsen, who sustained wounds to the back, chest and stomach, is still hospitalized, but, he said: "She's recovering... Everybody's optimistic."

Police said Heath went to Buffum's residence after the stabbing and was packing a bag, but fled when police arrived and was captured an hour later with the help of a New Hampshire State Police search dog. Barnstead police said Heath had a protective order against Buffum, and he was arrested on a stalking charge. Both the stabbing victim and Buffum were arrested at an underage drinking party in Concord last June. Buffum, then a resident of 46 Concord St., where the party was held, was charged with prohibited sales. Halvorsen was given a summons for alcohol possession. Heath was not among the 33 people summonsed or arrested at the underage drinking party.
