LANCASTER — A Hudson woman injured Tuesday after colliding with a tree on Trail 20 near Indian Stream in Pittsburg, later died after being taken to a medical center in Maine, New Hampshire Fish & Game said.
According to authorities, shortly after noon, Pauline Robinson, 47, and her husband David Robinson were riding south from Pittsburg Village toward Indian Stream.
About two miles from Indian Stream Road, Mrs. Robinson lost control of her snowmobile after entering an icy section of trail, causing the snowmobile to leave the trail and crash into a tree, authorities said. Mrs. Robinson was found by her husband shortly after the crash, authorities said.
After checking his wife, Mr. Robinson rode back to Pittsburg village for help. Other snowmobilers using the trail stopped to stay with Mrs. Robinson while rescuers were responding, authorities said.
Rescuers from Pittsburg Fire, 45th Parallel EMS, Pittsburg Police and New Hampshire Fish and Game came to the scene.
A helicopter from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center was called. Members of the Pittsburg Fire Department used snowmobiles and a rescue sled to get Mrs. Robinson from the woods. Once at the roadside, Mrs. Robinson was checked by 45th Parallel EMS staff and transferred to the DHART helicopter.
She was flown to Central Maine Medical Center for further treatment. At about 6 p.m. she died of her injuries.
Although the crash is still under investigation, authorities said they believe that an unintentional hit of the throttle was the primary cause of this crash.
