SUNAPEE — State Police said a Newbury man crashed his Chevrolet Suburban while trying to elude a sheriff’s deputy Wednesday.
A Sullivan County sheriff’s deputy spotted Christopher Fortugno, 39, operating the vehicle with an expired inspection sticker, police said.
Fortugno is being accused of increasing his speed and attempting to take a left turn onto Nutting Road in Sunapee. He did not negotiate the turn and collided with a tree and an embankment at the corner of Bradford Road.
He was taken into custody and booked on several motor vehicle charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned March 4 in Newport District Court.
Fortugno was uninjured in the accident, police said.
