NH College Roundup: SNHU beaten down the stretch
Eric Anderson’s lay-up with 1:20 remaining lifted the University of New Haven to a 59-57 Northeast-10 win against host Southern New Hampshire University Tuesday at the Fieldhouse. New Haven improved to 14-5 overall and 9-4 in conference play. The Penmen dropped to 10-8 overall and 8-7 in the NE-10.
Down by four points with 5:14 to play, SNHU tied the game at 57-57 on two layups from Adrian Oliveira, the last one coming with 1:53 to play. After New Haven took the lead on Anderson’s basketball, SNHU missed four shots in the last 1:20 to play.
Elijah Bonsignore scored 13 points to lead the Penmen and former Manchester Central standout Mike Stys added 10 points and five rebounds. Anderson had 11 points and 16 rebounds. New Haven won the battle of the boards, 40-27.
New Haven 62, SNHU 50: In Manchester, Bria Moore totaled a game-high 25 points for the winners. Junior Brooke Springfield of Jaffrey and freshman Sara Ryan led Southern New Hampshire with 12 points apiece. For Springfield, it marked the seventh time in eight games she reached double figures in the scoring column. Lorreta Rocha added 10 points for the Penmen.
