Derry teen to belt it out at the Garden
Emily Dellisola, a sophomore and member of the varsity cheerleading squad at Pinkerton Academy of Derry, will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” before tonight’s Bruins game at the TD Garden in Boston.
The sophomore from Pinkerton Academy was chosen last week to sing the national anthem before the start of tonight’s 7 p.m. National Hockey League game between the Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers at TD Garden.
“I’m so excited,” said Dellisola, a 15-year-old cheerleader who has sung the national anthem many times this season at the Pinkerton Academy basketball games.
“When I was younger, I did go to one Celtics game,” she said. “I’m a fan of the Boston Bruins and (Zdeno) Chara is my favorite player on the team.”
Dellisola gives a big assist to her mom, Lisa, for creating this opportunity.
Her audition in front of the Bruins’ brass took place last August and according to Dellisola’s dad, Scott, the Bruins called Emily last Tuesday and invited her to sing before tonight’s game.
