Firefighters extinguish blaze on Abijah Bridge Road in Weare

WEARE - No one was injured in a two-alarm blaze Sunday night that significantly damaged a house on Abijah Bridge Road.

Fire crews were on the scene of the blaze at 64 Abijah Bridge Road, a two-story, cape-style home, within five minutes of it being reported at 11:06 p.m.

Flames were showing from the first floor and Lt. Nik McCulloch immediately struck a second alarm.

Firefighters from the South Weare station entered the burning building to search for occupants. A collapsed living room floor initially hindered them, but they completed the search and confirmed no one was home, according to a news release issued by the fire department.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in about an hour, but by then the house and its contents were significantly damaged.

Investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire.

Helping at the scene were firefighters from surrounding communities including Goffstown, New Boston, Henniker, Dunbarton and Bow. Water and icy conditions were problematic and tankers had to be used to haul in water from a nearby hydrant.
