Windham home destroyed by early morning fire

WINDHAM - A Windham family of four lost their home to a fire early Monday morning.Fire crews from five area towns were summoned to the scene at 2 Meetinghouse Road shortly after 2 a.m. Monday.According to Windham Fire Chief Tom McPherson, homeowners Steve and Heidi Allan along with their two adult children were inside when the fire broke out, but they managed to safely escape along with their family pets.Firefighters from Windham, Londonderry, Salem, Hudson and Derry were at the home for several hours Monday morning to battle the fire, which was heavily involved on the first floor of the two-and-a-half-story home.The fire had spread rapidly from the first-floor family room up into the bedrooms on the second floor by the time crews arrived.The entire home sustained heavy smoke, fire and water damage and was deemed inhabitable after the fire, McPherson said.Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.Members of the Salvation Army provided water and additional support for the firefighters, and staff from the Pelham and Hampstead fire departments provided station coverage.As of Monday afternoon, the fire's cause was still being investigated though there's still no word on what sparked the blaze.
