Men's Hockey: Big Green skaters fall to RPI

Scott Diebold made 27 saves and Rensselaer went on to a 4-2 victory over Dartmouth in ECAC action Friday night before 3,769 at the Houston Fieldhouse in Troy, N.Y.

RPI improved to 9-10-4, 4-5-3 in the ECAC. Dartmouth dropped to 3-14-3, 2-10-1 in the ECAC.

After a scoreless first period, RPI’s Ryan Haggerty scored at the 45-second mark of the second period. Milos Bubela made it 2-0 at 14:07.

Geoff Ferguson brought Dartmouth to within 2-1 with 2:47 remaining in the second period, and after RPI’s Matt Neal scored at 7:48 of the third, Dartmouth’s Grant Opperman narrowed the margin again, at 11:39.

But Mike Zalewski ended the suspense by scoring an empty-net goal with six seconds left.

Dartmouth goalie James Kruger made 21 stops in the setback.

The Big Green are off until next Friday when they host Quinnipiac.
