Local events are brewing up interest for Cycle the Seacoast
DOVER — To build up momentum for the 5th annual Cycle the Seacoast in May, bicyclists are invited to find out more about the ride while enjoying a beer next month at the city's newest brewery.
Cycle the Seacoast, which is scheduled for May 4, promotes and helps raise money for the American Lung Association.
But before racers start on their journey, they can learn more about the event during Beer & Bikes at 7th Settlement at 47 Washington St., on Feb. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Promotions are also set at the following locations: Milly's Tavern in Manchester on Jan. 30, Redhook Brewery in Portsmouth on Feb. 20, Martha's Exchange in Nashua on Feb. 27 and Thirsty Moose Taphouse in Portsmouth on March 5.
Anyone interested in attending can RSVP via CycletheSeacoast@lungne.org.
"It will also be a great opportunity for people to meet other cyclists, volunteers, and business partners of Cycle the Seacoast and the American Lung Association," according to Sean MacWilliam, who's organizing the cycling event.
"The interest of the ride has continued to grow such that we needed a larger space to accommodate the number of cyclists, volunteers and other supporters who will be attending Cycle the Seacoast," MacWilliam said.
MacWilliam said the new location at the Redhook Brewery, located at Pease International Tradeport, offers enough room for the event to continue to grow. He said they hope to have at least 400 cyclists and 150 volunteers participate this year.
Participants can choose between three routes.
"This is a fun, at-your-own-pace ride with fully-supported route options of 25, 50 and 100 miles with rest stops along the way. Many businesses and family and friends groups choose to form teams, which adds to the camaraderie and fun," MacWilliam said in the e-mail.
Maps will be available in April.
Registration — which is non-refundable and non-transferable — is $35. It does not count toward the fundraising minimum, which is $250 for adults and $125 for ages 7-17.
