Fugitive
of the Week:

CAPTURED

Jeffrey Nickerson

ALTON - A man featured as this week's Fugitive of the Week was arrested about midnight in Alton after members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force found him hiding in a Main Street apartment.

Jeffrey Nickerson, 29, was wanted by Pittsfield, Barnstead and Laconia police on charges of failing to register as a sex offender, burglary, theft of a vehicle and escape.

Nickerson is required by law to register as a sex offender based on 1994 convictions in Middlesex County, Mass. on three counts of sexual assault.

Previously, Nickerson contacted investigators and indicated several times he was going to surrender to the task force on the outstanding warrants. When he didn't, the task force intensified its search for him.

Information developed by investigators and two tips led the task force to an apartment on Main Street in Alton. Authorities said Nickerson was found hiding in a corner next to a bureau and a rear door in the apartment.

Nickerson quickly realized he could not flee because an Alton police dog was just outside the door, according to a news release issued by the U.S. Marshals Office. Nickerson was arrested without further incident.

He was turned over to the Pittsfield and Epson police, and taken to the Merrimack County jail where he is being held pending arraignment.
