Mass. woman injured in Pelham car accident

PELHAM — A Bay State woman was injured Thursday morning when her van was struck at an intersection on Mammoth Road.

Pelham police said Jeannette Midgley, 53, of Dracut, Mass., was taken to Southern New Hampshire Regional Medical Center in Nashua after the 11:21 a.m. crash. Police termed her injuries “non-life-threatening” but serious.

.
The driver of the other vehicle, Nicholas Rapias, 82, also of Dracut, walked away from the scene uninjured, according to police.

Police said Midgley’s 2003 Dodge Caravan was struck as she was traveling northbound on Mammoth Road. As she reached the intersection with Marsh Road, police said Rapias in a 2001 Ford Expedition drove through the stop sign on Marsh Road and struck her van. Midgley’s van was spun around and the rear right sliding door was detached and imbedded into the corner of the Expedition.
..
Midgely was trapped in the van, according to police and was extricated by members of the fire department.

Witnesses told police Rapias slowed down and then proceeded through the stop sign at the intersection when the crash happened.
..
Mammoth Road was closed down to one lane for an hour and a half. The Pelham Traffic Accident Response Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Rapias was cited for a stop-sign violation.
