Manchester swimmer sets New England record
Swimmer Matthew Grauslys of Manchester, fresh off the Junior Nationals, set a New England record at the New England Senior Championships in Worcester, Mass,. held Dec. 20-22.
Grauslys, swimming with the Executive Swim Club team out of Manchester, set his record in the 100 butterfly, which he finsihed in 48.59 seconds. He also won the 200 butterfly (1:47.19) and 1,000 freestyle (9:28.72), and swam in the top eight in the 500 freestyle (4:36.93), 200 backstroke (1:51.02), and 200 individual medley (1:52.95) to finish third in the point standings.
Molly Fitzpatrick of Bedford and the Derryfield School swam to second place in the 200 breaststroke. Her time of 2:14.64 also qualifies her to compete in the Junior Nationals this summer in Irvine, Calif. She finished in third place in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.23), and second in the 200 freestyle (1:54.77) and 200 individual medley (2:06.98).
Grant Levasseur, Elliot Chun, Grauslys, Joe and Moleski finished third in the 400 medley relay. Their time of 3:29.46 is just shy of the junior national time standard.
Seventeen Executive swimmers participated.
