Crash leaves hundreds in dark in Weare

WEARE — Hundreds of homes and businesses lost power Saturday morning when a driver slid off an icy road and struck a utility pole.

The vehicle snapped the telephone pole around 6:15 a.m. on Deering Center Road. Electrical wires and a section of pole landed on the vehicle.

The road remained closed late Saturday morning as a Public Service of New Hampshire crew was making repairs.

PSNH's website reported 422 homes and businesses without power.
