Busy Monarchs look forward to Jones' return

Welcome back, Mr. Jones.

Goaltender Martin Jones returned to the Manchester Monarchs this week and will lead the team tonight against Bridgeport at 7 p.m. at Verizon Wireless Arena.

After posting a record of 8-3-0 with three shutouts in 11 starts with the parent club Los Angeles Kings, Jones is back in town and will seek to help Manchester get back on track after a recent slate of just two wins in seven games.

While the goaltending news is good for Manchester (23-9-6), the rest of the roster has some question marks.

Forward Tanner Pearson was called up to L.A. on Tuesday and defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk could be out with an injury.

"We're trying to figure out our lineup right now," said Monarchs head coach Mark Morris. "We'll find out whether Andrew Bodnarchuk is able to play this weekend and then Tanner Pearson got called up. So we're working on brand new chemistry and new lines. We have a lot of work to do before puck drop to find some things that are going to make us a more consistent team."

The Sound Tigers are coached by former Monarchs assistant Scott Pellerin and they hit town tonight with a record of 13-18-5.

Bridgeport has two main weapons on offense, Anders Lee (13 goals, 14 assists for 27 points) and Mike Halmo (12-12-24).

Following the home game tonight, Manchester hits the road to face Albany Saturday at 5 p.m. and Providence Sunday at 3:05 p.m.

Also, Jones and teammate Linden Vey on Thursday were named to the roster for the AHL All-Star Classic, set for St. John's, Newfoundland, on Feb. 12.
