NH College Roundup: Kiernan, Wojtas lead Keene State women

The Keene State College’s women’s basketball team improved its record to 7-3 with a 77-54 non-conference win over Worcester State University at Worcester, Mass., Tuesday.

Senior Carly Kiernan registered her second double-double in the last three games, finishing with a game high 21 points and 14 rebounds. “I’m just trying to stay hungry and crash the boards for rebounds and putbacks,” said Kiernan, who was 8-for-18 from the field.

Junior Christan Wojtas, of Amherst, was on target once again from the outside, draining five of her eight three-point shots to finish with 15 points. Sophomore point guard Kelsey Cognetta also scored in double figures with 12 points to go with four rebounds and four assists while junior forward Courtney Roberts had seven points and nine rebounds.

Men’s basketball

New England College 84, Green Mountain College 69: At Henniker, forward Robin Wilson posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Pilgrims.

The Pilgrims improve to 5-6 on the season and even their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) record to 2-2. The loss drops the Eagles to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in NAC play.

Dezron Wilson finished with team-high 16 points for NEC, while Ryan Schmitz had seven points to go along with seven steals and six assists. Joel DeMadet chipped in 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Green Mountain’s Javier Lugris led all scorers with 22 points and eight rebounds. Tyler Provencher chipped in 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Women’s hockey

Franklin Pierce 3, St. Michael’s 1: At Winchendon, Mass., sophomore forwards Colleen Doucette and Karsyn Baker each notched a goal and an assist on Tuesday afternoon, with the former scoring the game-winning goal.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 10-2-0 and reaches double digits in wins for the first time, in just the program’s second season. Franklin Pierce held a 34-20 edge in shots.

Marisa Ketterman added a goal for the Ravens.

Shannon O’Neil finished the afternoon with 19 saves to pick up the win (5-0-0) between the pipes for Franklin Pierce. At the other end, freshman Tina Frasca stopped 31 shots in the loss.
Wesleyan 4, New England College 3: At Henniker, Wesleyan was paced by Cara Jankowski, of New London (Phillips Exeter Academy), who scored two goals. Jordan Schildhaus scored once and assisted on Wesleyan’s other three goals.

Wesleyan improved to 3-5-2 with the win, while NEC falls to 1-10-0.

Kellie McLean netted two goals for NEC. Alexis Fitzpatrick added a goal while Mackenzie Meegan recorded two assists.
