UNH hockey team ranked again

Two home wins over the weekend turned the Wildcats into a ranked team again.

The University of New Hampshire held down the No. 20 ranking in the latest Division I USCHO.com men’s hockey poll released Monday. The Wildcats raised their record 12-10-1 with non-conference victories against previously No. 19 ranked University of Nebraska-Omaha at the Whittemore Center in Durham.

On Friday Kevin Goumas and Trevor van Riemsdyk registered three points apiece in a 6-3 win and, on Saturday in a 5-2 decision, Matt Willows garnered a hat trick. It was his second career hat trick and all three goals were scored in the third period.

Willows, a junior forward, was named Warrior Hockey Player of the Week by Hockey East Monday. Willows ended up recording five points against Nebraska-Omaha, including a goal in Friday’s win.

UNH remains 5-5 in Hockey East, good for third place behind league-leader Boston College (7-1-1) and Providence College (6-2-1). The Wildcats are 3-1 since returning from their holiday break, winning their last three games.

The team resumes play Saturday in Manchester at Verizon Wireless Arena against Granite State rival Dartmouth College at 5 p.m. in the Battle for the RiverStone Cup XIII.

Christie is the real deal

We have found Gov. Chris Christie to be the most consistent, the most confident in his abilities, the most tested under fire, and the most likely to regain the White House from a disastrous Democratic regime.
