$500,000 cash bail set in Claremont child sex abuse case

NEWPORT — A Claremont man accused of child sex abuse and manufacturing child pornography pleaded not guilty to charges Monday at his arraignment in Sullivan County Superior Court.
Kevin Blood, 25, of 4 Hanover St., was indicted on seven charges by the Sullivan County grand jury in December: two counts of manufacturing child sex abuse images and five counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault on two victims, ages 1 and 4, between Nov. 1 and Nov. 25, 2013.

His wife, Ashley Blood, 25, has also been indicted on two counts of manufacturing child sexual abuse images and one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault. Her arraignment was set to take place Monday, but was deferred.

Kevin Blood appeared in court via video conference from the Sullivan County House of Corrections in Unity.

After his attorney entered the plea of not guilty, the judge set bail at $500,000 cash at the request of County Attorney Marc Hathaway. A condition of bail prohibits Blood from contacting the victims, the judge said.

The child pornography charges carry the penalty of 15 to 30 years in state prison and a $4,000 fine. The sexual assault charges carry a prison sentence of 10 to 20 years and a $4,000 fine.

The Bloods were arrested by Claremont police Dec. 5, 2013, after an 11-day investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse against the couple.

Antrim police, the Grafton and Sullivan Child Advocacy Center and the state Division of for Children, Youth and Family assisted in the investigation, according to Claremont police.
