Unbeaten Nashua North scored three second-period goals in 56 seconds en route to a 6-1 Division I ice hockey win against rival Nashua South at the Conway Arena on Monday afternoon.

Nashua North (5-0) led in the first period behind an unassisted goal from Jon Wilson.

“We didn’t execute, didn’t play our style in the first period,” said Nashua North coach Danny Legro. “In the second period we came out forechecking and forced some turnovers in their end.”

Wilson opened the scoring 2:54 into the middle period, and 37 seconds later, senior Jake Latham found the twine.

Evan Conners completed the three-goal blitz to give North a commanding 4-0 cushion.

Steve Saucier got one goal back for South before the second period ended, but North finished strong with third-period goals from Robert Lavine and Joey Paige. Jon Searles (two), Tyler Searles, Tim Paige and Dan Leblanc (two) each had at least one assist in the game.

Nashua North goalie Jake Genest had 17 saves and South goalie A.J. Bender turned back 23 shots.

Legro said his team will be tested Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. when defending state champion Manchester Memorial (3-1) invades the Conway Arena.

“There are so many good Division I teams this year, but only one defending state champion,” said Legro. “Memorial is playing well and off to a winning start. They’ve got our full attention.”
