Unmarked State Police cruiser was damaged and a state trooper injured when hit by a Ford Expedition that lost control on a ramp from I-93 while supervising clean-up of an earlier accident.

State trooper hurt while protecting accident scene

TILTON - A state trooper was injured when his cruiser was struck by another vehicle while he was protecting an accident scene off Interstate 93 Saturday.

Sgt. Michael McQuade was taken by ambulance to Franklin Regional Hospital for treatment of what police termed non-life-threatening injuries, and was later released.

According to a press release, around noon on Saturday, McQuade was inside his Dodge Charger with its side and rear emergency lights activated, as a tow truck was removing a vehicle that had gone off the road on the Exit 20 off-ramp.
State police said Kim Gullage, 47, of Derry, was driving northbound on I-93 and was taking the off-ramp when she saw the police cruiser and applied her brakes.

Police said Gullage was "traveling too fast for the conditions," and lost control of her 2001 Ford Expedition on the snow-covered road.
Her vehicle struck the cruiser from behind, pushing it forward about 20 feet and causing "significant" damage, police said.

Gullage, who was not injured, was ticketed for negligent operation.

The crash closed the off-ramp for about 45 minutes.
