Monarchs fall; Jones returns to Manchester

Hershey scored four straight goals and hung a 6-3 win on the Manchester Monarchs on Sunday at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa.

The teams scored five goals in a wild first period, with Manchester going into intermission behind, 3-2.

Hershey’s Dustin Gazley started the scoring with a power play goal at 12:33. Peter LeBlanc doubled the advantage a little more than a minute later, at 13:42.

But Manchester came right back and scored 24 seconds later. Defenseman Andrew Campbell halved Hershey’s lead with a goal at 14:06 ,and Nick Shore tied it up less than two minutes later with a power play goal at 16:04.

Late in the period, Hershet’s Ryan Stoa have the Bears the lead for good with a power-play goal at 18:17.

Manchester started the second period poorly as the Monarchs conceded a shorthanded goal to Nicolas Deschamps at 1:01 to make the score 4-2. Brandon Segal added a goal at 4:09, which chased Monarchs goalie Jean-Francois Berube from the game. Casey Wellman scored at 19:21 of the second, on a power play, to give Hershey a 6-2 lead.

Manchester’s Nick Delauriers notched a goal at 19:06 of the third for the 6-3 final.

Berube took the loss, allowing five goals in 24:09. Mathias Niederberger relieved and allowed one goal in 35:51.

Berube, who has spent the past two months manning the Monarchs net, is likely to return to his backup role after the Los Angeles Kings assigned goalie Martin Jones to Manchester on Sunday.

Jones played 11 games while in Los Angeles while Kings starter Jonathan Quick recovered from a groin injury that sidelined him for nearly two months. Jones won his first eight starts and had an 8-3 record with a 1.41 goals-against average, a .950 save percentage and three shutouts.

With Manchester, Jones is 9-2-2 with a 2.24 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.

There could be more moves this week. The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday that left wing Tanner Pearson will be recalled to the Kings this week in the wake of L.A’.s trade Saturday of forward Daniel Carcillo to the Rangers.
