Hockey benefit to honor memory of crash victim

HENNIKER — Several former Boston Bruins are scheduled to play a benefit hockey game in Henniker on Sunday afternoon, to benefit a scholarship fund established in memory of a 7-year-old Manchester girl who died in a 2012 automobile accident.

Kerrigan Bridges, a student at John Stark High School in Weare, is organizing the event to benefit the scholarship, established to honor the memory of Kyara Mailhot, who was killed in a crash that also took the life of a Concord man.

The Bruins alumni team will play a team of members of the New England College men's and women's varsity hockey teams at NEC's Clement Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Among the retired Bruins players on the alumni roster are Rick Middleton, Andy Brickley, the team's television broadcaster and a former University of New Hampshire winger; Bob Beers, the team's current radio commentator; Reggie Lemelin and Bruce Crowder. The team is coached by former Bruin Bob Sweeney.

The game was organized by Stark High School senior Bridges as part of a senior project. Bridges has already help to raise more than $1,200 for the fund by organizing and promoting a road race.

"Kerrigan really wanted to help the family keep Kyara's name alive in a positive manner," said Deb Bridges, who is helping her daughter with logistics for the game. "She was a vibrant little girl."

Tickets for the game are $20 for adults and $15 for children and students. A meet-and-greet with an opportunity to meet the players will be held after the game in the Simon Center Pub on the NEC campus for an additional charge.
