NEWINGTON — The Exit 3 southbound ramp from the Spaulding Turnpike will be closed weekdays during the day from Monday, Jan. 6 through Friday, Jan. 17.
The closures will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Southbound motorists seeking to get off at Exit 3 to Woodbury Avenue will be directed to Exit 1.
The state Department of Transportation plans to use electronic message boards to alert motorists of the ramp closure. Detour signs will also be in place. According to NH DOT, the timing of the traffic signal at the Gosling Road and Woodbury Avenue intersection will be adjusted to account for the additional traffic volumes on Gosling Road.NH DOT said the ramp closure will allow for the removal and transfer of pavement from the bypassed closed section of the turnpike between Exit 3 and Exit 1.
The work is part of a 2.8-mile widening project on a section of the Spaulding Turnpike between Newington and Dover that will include a new full interchange at Exit 3, with a new bridge over the Spaulding Turnpike carrying Exit 3 traffic and connecting to Arboretum Drive in the Pease International Tradeport.
The total project cost is expected to be about $43 million and be completed in July 2015.
