Keene man charged with animal cruelty

Nicholas R. Coll

KEENE — Nicholas R. Coll, who lives at the 170 Pearl St. address where a man was murdered last month, was arrested Thursday on animal cruelty charges, police said in a release.

Police said Coll, who was convicted of animal cruelty in 2007, abused a dog during the last week. He was being held Thursday in Cheshire County jail on $10,000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear Wednesday in Keene Circuit Court.

Coll lived in the same building as David Wheelock, a registered sex offender who was shot multiple times on Dec. 21. According to media reports, Coll, who lived in an upstairs apartment, found Wheelock dead and called police.
