UNH assault leads to arrest

DURHAM — A Massachusetts man who allegedly used a broken bottle to attack a staff member at a University of New Hampshire housing unit on New Year’s Day was arrested Thursday on assault charges, according to university police.

Police said Mark Giles, 20, of Beverly, Mass., who is not a UNH student, assaulted the worker at the Gables apartment complex about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. He turned himself in to police on Thursday and is scheduled to appear March 13 in Dover Circuit Court, police said.

Police said they are still searching for a woman who was with Giles at the time of the attack. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 862-1427.
