Maine man charged with theft of $400 in lottery tickets

PORTSMOUTH — A Maine man was arrested Tuesday on charges he stole about $400 worth of lottery tickets, according to a police news release.

Nathaniel Glavin, 34, of Saco, Maine, took the lottery tickets from the Big Apple Store on Lafayette Road on Friday, the release said. The theft was one of a "pattern" of lottery ticket thefts throughout the Seacoast region, the release said.

Authorities said Glavin at first gave police a false name when he was stopped while driving near the Market Basket store on Woodbury Avenue after a store clerk reported seeing someone who matched previous police descriptions of the robber.

Glavin was charged with theft, disobeying a police officer and driving a car after his license had been suspended.

Police continue to investigate other lottery ticket thefts, the release said.
