Salem School Board filings begin Jan. 22
SALEM — Election season is coming up fast, and the school district recently announced several important dates for anyone planning on running for office or who wishes to file a citizen petition for the March 11 town election.
There is one three-year term on the School Board on the ballot this year, with Chairman Bernard Campbell’s term expiring in March. The election for the School Board member is at the same voting time and places as the town elections.
Potential candidates for the position can file for the ballot beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 22, according to Superintendent Michael Delahanty. The filing period extends through Friday, Jan. 31.
Candidates must be registered voters in Salem and can pick up papers at the superintendent’s office at 38 Geremonty Drive Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., or from school district clerk Kelly Bryant.
Anyone who would like an absentee ballot for the election can pick one up at the Town Clerk’s office at 33 Geremonty Drive.
The deadline is also coming up for citizens to submit warrant articles for consideration at the school district’s annual deliberative session on Thursday, Feb. 6.
Citizen petitions must be submitted to the superintendent’s office before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and the petition must be signed by 25 registered voters.
The deliberative session is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at Salem High School. District warrant articles that are scheduled to be considered include the school budget and a nearly $75 million appropriation for the high school renovation project. firstname.lastname@example.org
