Manchester police stepping up New Year's patrols

MANCHESTER - Police are adding patrols downtown to ensure New Year's revelers stay safe.

.“We have an additional two-man patrol on Elm Street in the early hours,” Lt. James Soucy said Tuesday. “It's a two-man walking beat for areas on Elm Street,” Soucy said. “As far as late-night patrols, we have a full complement (of officers) that will pay special attention to the bars and restaurants as well as downtown.”..Police also will provide “heightened security in and around the parking garages and alleyways,” Soucy said...Temperatures in the low-20s and high teens are predicted for Manchester on Tuesday evening...Police also will be visiting areas frequented by the homeless to try to get them services to avoid staying outside...The Manchester Monarchs will face off against the Providence Bruins at 7 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Elm Street. As usual, police will assist with traffic control to make it easier for fans to cross Elm Street...Those who need a free ride home can call Bentley's Towing. Kris Hobbs said this marks the second year his company will provide the rides to inebriated people. He will be bring them home and tow their vehicle as well. Regular tows normally run $65, but he will accept tips...
