Pembroke Academy jumped out to an early 28-10 lead at the end of the first quarter to capture their fourth straight Concord Area Holiday Tournament title, 76-56 over Bishop Brady on Saturday at New Hampshire Technical Institute.
Kafani Williams scored 23 points and grabbed 10 boards to lead the Spartans to the win. MVP Patrick Welch added 14 points while teammates Max Curran (12 points) and Dominic Timbas (10) also played well.
For the Green Giants, Jourdain Bell poured in 23 points and Brendan Johnson added 19 points including five 3-pointers in the defeat.
The Merrimack Valley girls defeated rival Pembroke Academy in an exciting 42-37 contest to capture the girls' championship in the 43rd annual Concord Area Holiday Tournament on Saturday at New Hampshire Technical Institute.
MVP Mary Mullen led the Pride to victory with 14 points and eight rebounds. The Pride led 11-8 after one quarter, 18-17 at the half and 30-27 after the third.
Pembroke kept things close the entire game behind the stellar play of all-tournament selections Aleanna Clermont (six points, four steals) and Karli Loiselle (18 points, eight boards).
Rounding out the all-tournament team were Mayson Kimball (Merrimack Valley), Jenessa Luciano (Concord) and Riselly Deoleo (Bishop Brady).
BABC Christmas Tournament: In Roxbury, Mass., Bishop Guertin fell to New Mission High of Hyde Park, Mass., 67-48, on Friday. New Mission is the third-ranked team in Massachusetts.
Joe Marandola led the Cardinals with 14 points. Kyle Gavin had 12 points and John Noone had six. C.J. Boykins and Costas Niarhos turned in solid defensive performances.
The Cardinals will play Dorchester, Mass., the Bay State's 16th-ranked team, today.
Red Claws Christmas Tournament: At Portland, Maine, Bedford's girls beat Spruce Mountain of Jay, Maine, 83-41, Saturday. Rachel Collins led Bedford with 15 points. Courtney O'Connell had nine rebounds.
Zero Gravity Holiday Basketball Tournament: At Keene, ConVal beat Fall Mountain, 54-35, Saturday to advance to today's Silver Division championship today against Mascenic at Keene State College at 5:30 p.m.
Senior Jordan Moore and junior Noah Cail scored 12 points for ConVal, while Kyle Murray had 11.
