Fire damages student apartment building in Henniker

HENNIKER — Crews from 12 fire departments battled a three-alarm fire that damaged a large, two-story apartment building Monday afternoon, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Burritt said.

"When the first units arrived, there was heavy smoke and flames," Burritt said.

The 3 Park St. apartment building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Burritt said the building housed New England College students who were out of town on Christmas break.

Nobody was injured battling the blaze, which was under control about 45 minutes after it was reported about 1:45 p.m. Monday, he said.

No cause has been determined for the fire, which is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal's Office, he said.
