Secret Santa shines on Freemont's needy
FREMONT — A secret Santa made sure families in need would not miss out on celebrating the holidays.
The Fremont Police Department received a "sizeable" gift from a donor who asked to remain anonymous and that the money be distributed to people in the community who need it.
"This time of year tends to put more stress on people," Sgt. Jason Larochelle said Saturday. "And there's the pressure also to make Christmas a happy time for children."
Out of respect for the donor's wish to remain anonymous, Larochelle left the description at "sizeable" in terms of dollars.
Fremont DARE officer Gary Huard contacted local schools and food pantries to see where the need was greatest and distribute the money based on what the information those agencies provided, Larochelle said.
"The town is very generous, but as far as a monetary nature I've never seen anything like this," Larochelle said.
