Timberlane parents make voices heard

PLAISTOW — Snow is falling and Christmas decorations are up, but that doesn't mean the Timberlane School Board is ignoring the feedback it received earlier in the summer.

The board's Community Relations Committee has made it a point to solicit input from the community in an effort to bring more voices into the district. One of the ways the committee has gathered feedback is by attending popular community events.

"We did receive a number of suggestions when we attended the Old Home Days this past summer in Plaistow, Sandown and Danville," said board member Kate Delfino. "We had suggestion boxes in our booths, and we do want to thank everyone who did provide suggestions."All the suggestions that were made were followed up on by the community relations committee or forwarded to the appropriate person or department in the district, Delfino said.

Some of the suggestions that were made include getting rid of portable classrooms in the district, bringing back letter grades at the middle school, bringing back finals at the high school, getting nice entrance signs for the high school and middle school, and having teachers in the hallways at the high school to help deter bullying.

One anonymous comment suggested the district do something about the music department's concert dresses for girls.

"They look like they belong to a cult," the suggestion read. "They should look as spiffy as the boys."

Delfino said there were also several local residents who gave their contact information to volunteer in the district.

Anyone who would like to check out the suggestions or find out more about the community relations committee can find the link on the Timberlane website at, Delfino said.
