Pistons edge Celtics

BOSTON — Brandon Jennings scored 28 points — including a big 3-pointer in the final minute — and tied a season high with 14 assists as visiting Detroit rallied from 21 points down to top Boston, 107-106.

Josh Smith had 20 points and Andre Drummond added 14 points and 16 rebounds for the Pistons, who were coming off a victory at Eastern Conference-leading Indiana. Greg Monroe finished with 12 points and eight rebounds and Kyle Singler chipped in 11 off the bench.

Jared Sullinger led six Celtics in double figures with 19 points. Jordan Crawford had 17, Avery Bradley 14 and Jeff Green 13, missing on a drive to the hoop before the final horn.

Boston scored a season-high 42 points in the first quarter and led by 21 after Kris Humphries hit a jumper to open the second quarter before Detroit finally got it going and slowly crawled to within 63-52 at halftime. Jennings capped a 22-8 run with a four-point play that allowed the Pistons to take a 74-73 lead just past the midway point of the third.

Smith scored on three straight possessions to give Detroit a 104-97 advantage with under three minutes remaining, but Boston responded with eight straight points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer by Sullinger with a minute remaining. Jennings answered with a 3 of his own with 46.7 seconds left to put the Pistons up 107-105 and Sullinger was only able to split two free throws on the other end before Green's last-second attempt failed.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Celtics F Brandon Bass (11 points) and SG Courtney Lee (10 points) played amid rumors they would be part of a package deal for Houston C Omer Asik.
