City logs 2 robberies within 45 minutes
MANCHESTER — A hair stylist and her customer were shaken up Monday when a man with a knife robbed them in a Blodget Street salon.
About 45 minutes later, another woman was robbed as she got out of her car at an Edward J. Roy Drive apartment complex. The man rushed her from behind, forced her to the ground, pressed something against her back and demanded cash. He fled after getting some money from her purse.
Stylist Nancy Poulios at Hairtistic Salon, 217 Blodget St., said the robbery was quick, lasting only a couple of minutes, but left her and her customer shaken.
“He just basically came in with an 8- to 10-inch knife,” she said. “He said, ’Give me the money.’ We said we didn’t have any and he said, ’Give me the money.’”
She gave him the $15 in the register along with a check. Poulios said the robber threw the check back at her and then demanded her purse as well as the customer’s. They told him they didn’t have them with them.
He cursed at them but then left the store, heading east on Blodget Street.
Poulios, a hair stylist for 16 years, said nothing like this has ever happened and that the area is normally quiet.
“It’s happening everywhere,” she said. “They want quick cash, probably for drugs or whatever.”
The robber is described as a white man in his 30s, about 6-feet tall with a thin build and blue eyes. He wore a dark blue, hooded sweatshirt and had a black neoprene mask over his face. He also wore stained tan work pants.
Poulios said investigators think the man who robbed them may have robbed Cumberland Farms, 217 Union St., Sunday. In that incident, a masked man grabbed an assistant manager, put a knife to her throat and then took cash from two registers.
That robber was described as a 6-foot-tall white man wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black boots and a black winter mask over his face. He had light-colored eyes and a deep voice with a heavy Boston accent.
The robbery in the parking lot at 130 Edward J. Roy happened about 5:45 p.m. Monday. A 34-year-old woman told police she just got out of her car when she was rushed by a man who put his hand over her mouth and pushed her to the ground, pinning her on her stomach.
The man pressed an object against her back, which she believed was a gun, and demanded her money.
He fled after getting some cash from her purse but not before he told her to look away and not move for several minutes. She did not see him leave but told police she heard the sound of a vehicle leaving the area.
The robber is described as a white man, about 24 years old, 5-foot-5 and weighing 140 pounds. He wore a gray, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
