Trinity, BG skaters open with victories

Trinity of Manchester scored two third-period goals and opened the Division I ice hockey season with a 3-1 triumph over St. Thomas Aquinas of Dover. Monday at the Dover Ice Arena.

Mitch Myers collected a goal and an assist for the Pioneers. Trinity also received goals from Drew Merrick and Jack Collins. Trinity goalie Curtis Wirbal made 23 saves. St. Thomas goaltender Zane Angelopoulos stopped 25 shots.
Bishop Guertin 5, Exeter 0: At the Rinks in Exeter, Connor Donahue highlighted a four-goal spree in the second period for the Cardinals. Jason Lutcza, Mike Barrett and Austin King each had one goal. Assists were registered by Cam Holt, John Krapian, Justin Pearson and Joe Leahy.

BG goalie Griffin Scanlon notched the shutout with nine saves. Exeter netminder Tyler Lucchini turned back 26 shots.
Nashua North 7, Londonderry 4: At Nashua, the Titans scored the final three goals and prevailed in the Division I opener for each school. Danny LeBlanc had three goals for North, which also received two goals from John Searles. Joey Paige (1-2) and Jake Latham (1-1) also had multiple points for the Titans. Curtis Harper scored twice for the Lancers.
Girls' basketball
Hanover 68, Goffstown 53: J.J. Daniell had 26 points and Lexie Hamilton had 14 points to lead Hanover in the opener. Molly McQueeney had 20 for the Grizzlies.
Spaulding 43, Nashua South 31: At Nashua, Emily Benway scored 19 points and Lyndsee Thompson added 11 to lead the Red Raiders in their Division I opener.

Boys' basketball

Coe-Brown 56, John Stark 49: In Northwood, Nick Rosler collected 18 points and five rebounds and Erik Rosler chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds for the 2-0 Bears. Spencer Nowland finished with 10 points and teammates Luke Zollman and Sam Langdon each netted six points. John Stark was led by Jordan Tucker with 13 points and Drew McQuarrie garnered 10. John Stark is 0-2.
Exeter 83, West 49: At Manchester, forward Max Medley tossed in a game-high 16 points and guard Zack Holler added 12 as Exeter prevailed in the Division I opener for each school. Zack Jones (12) and Zach Theriault (11) led West, which trailed 41-21 at halftime.
