Harvard clears all buildings after report of explosives

BOSTON (Reuters) - Harvard University on Monday around 9 a.m. warned of "unconfirmed reports" of explosives planted at four buildings on its Cambridge, Mass., campus. It wasn't until close to 3 p.m. that all four buildings were cleared.

The final building, the Science Center, was cleared at 2:44 p.m., according to the Harvard website.
And shortly before noon, UMass Boston issued an alert that a man was seen on campus with a gun. State Police quickly dispelled that rumor, calling the threat a "false report."

Harvard University sent Tweets on its Twitter account shortly after 9 a.m. telling people to evacuate four buildings on campus: the Science Center, Thayer, Sever, and Emerson halls.
A report on the university's website shortly after 9:30 a.m. indicated: "The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) this morning received an unconfirmed report that explosives may have been placed in four buildings on campus: the Science Center, Thayer, Sever and Emerson Halls. HUPD and Cambridge Police are on the scene. Out of an abundance of caution, the buildings have been evacuated while the report is investigated"
At UMass Boston, officials issued an alert via the college's Twitter account just before noon to evacuate the McCormack Building due to a report of a possible person with a firearm. State police said shortly after there was no threat.
