Dartmouth skaters dealt another close loss

December 12. 2013 11:05PM

The Dartmouth College hockey team has endured five one-goal losses thus far this season.

The latest was Wednesday, when the Big Green squandered a third-period lead and fell to No. 10 Union, 3-2, in Schenectady, N.Y.

The Big Green dropped to 2-10-0, 2-8 in the ECAC. They led for long stretches of the game, but were unable to hold off the Dutchmen (11-3-2, 8-1-0 ECAC) in the final period as the home team won its eighth straight.

Big Green goalie Charles Grant stopped 27 shots.

“I thought we played a very good, tough game against a good opponent,” head coach Bob Gaudet said. “It came down to a few bounces of the puck at the end, and unfortunately for us, they just didn’t happen to go our way.”

Tyler Sikura and Ryan Bullock scored for Dartmouth, with Bullock’s goal making it 2-1 in the second period. But with 10:21 remaining in the third period, Dutchmen right winger Nick Cruice once again tied things. And Mike Pontarelli scored a power-play goal with 3:46 left to win it.
