UPDATE: Lancaster man, 74, killed in head-on Columbia crash

COLUMBIA - Police identified the driver of a car killed in a crash on Route 3 in Comumbia Tuesday morning as George Motard, 74, of Lancaster.

Motard was driving a Buick LeSabre that was traveling north on Route 3 in Columbia when his vehicle traveled left of center and struck a southbound Toyota Tacoma pickup truck being driven by Brendan Kelly, 24, of Newport, Vt., according to police.  Kelly sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash, police said.

COLUMBIA — One person died in a head-on collision on Route 3 in Columbia Tuesday morning.

The driver of a northbound Buick LeSabre crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming Toyota Tundra pickup truck about 8:40 a.m., state police said.

The driver of the Buick suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation suggests the driver experienced a medical event which caused the vehicle to cross into the opposite lane.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.

The pickup truck driver went by ambulance to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and was later transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Drivers’ names are being withheld until relatives are notified.

The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Jimmy Crossley at 846-3333.
