BRENTWOOD – A Lawrence, Mass., man is facing a variety of drug charges after police say he smashed into a Windham police cruiser and a sheriff deputy’s car while trying to evade arrest Wednesday.

Jonathan Delgado, 29, was arraigned Thursday in 10th Circuit Court, Brentwood District Division, after his arrest by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Drug Task Force and Windham police.

Delgado is accused of selling heroin and crack cocaine over the last month.

Officers moved in to arrest Delgado Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. on Range Road in Windham minutes after he allegedly made a drug transaction with an undercover officer, the sheriff’s office said.

Once Delgado saw the police cruisers, he attempted to flee from deputies, first plowing the front of his Volvo into a Windham police cruiser, then backing into a marked sheriff’s cruiser, according to the sheriff’s office.

“We had him pretty much boxed in,” chief deputy Al Brackett said.

Damage to the two police vehicles was minimal because Delgado had a small amount of space to drive, Brackett said.

“He had to be forcibly removed from his car, Brackett said. “He resisted until he was handcuffed.”

Delgado allegedly had three grams of heroin and three grams of crack cocaine on him at the time of his arrest, according to Brackett.

Delgado was charged with three counts of sale of a controlled drug for the crack cocaine, four counts of sale of a controlled drug for the heroin. Those sales happened during three transactions, according to Brackett.

He also faces charges of disobeying a police officer, resisting arrest, reckless operation, criminal mischief and transportation of a controlled drug. Delgado's bail was set at $25,000 cash.

Brackett said investigators have noticed an uptick in heroin sales in the area because of the increased price of prescription medications such as oxycodone.

The Sheriff’s Drug Task Force and Windham police had Delgado under investigation for roughly a month prior to his arrest Wednesday, Brackett said. Undercover agents made controlled drug sales of heroin and crack cocaine from Delgado during the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
