College roundup: Local men's teams go 3-0 for the night
St. Anselm College, Southern New Hampshire University and Franklin Pierce University each posted impressive Northeast-10 men's basketball wins Tuesday.
Chris Santo, on 12-of-15 shooting from the field, scored 29 points to lead the Hawks past Stonehill 97-81 at the Stoutenburgh Gym in Manchester. Santo had eight rebounds. Roy Mabrey was 9-of-11 from the free throw line and finished with 23 points. John Nielsen had four three-point shots and ended with 16 points. The Hawks are 6-3 overall.
Franklin Pierce 93, Bentley 84: In Rindge, the No. 24-ranked Ravens handed Bentley its third straight loss thanks to 17 points by Tyler Iacuone and A. Vourliotakis. Ellis Cooper had 16 points and eight rebounds and Ryen Vilmont collected 16 points and five assists.
SNHU 79, Assumption 50: In Worcester, Mass., the Penmen outscored the hosts 42-17 in the second half. Hooksett's Mike Stys, on 7-of-8 shooting, made all four of his three-point shots and netted a game-high 22 points. He added a team-high six boards and four assists. Aleksandar Dobrovic had 18 points in the win and was followed by Elijah Bonsignore with 16 points.
St. Anselm 66, Stonehill 65: In Manchester, Briana Jones scored a layup with two seconds left for the win. Jones and Candace Andrews each had 15 points for the Hawks, 7-5 overall. Allie Jones had 12 points in the win while Tori Lehr and Meg Morrissey each netted 10 points.
Assumption 69, SNHU 62: In Worcester, Mass., Manchester's Amra Elezovic scored a game-high 21 points in the loss. Bianca Langford netted 12 off the bench and Erin Doherty chipped in 11 for the 5-3 Penmen.
Bentley 86, Franklin Pierce 66: In Rindge, Manchester's Christiana Bakolas scored six points, hauled in six rebounds, dished out eight assists and had three steals for No. 1 nationally ranked Bentley, 10-0. Brittany Martelle netted 18 points for the 4-6 Ravens.
