WINDHAM — It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Windham.

Hundreds of locals bundled up against the cold to ring in the season during Saturday afternoon's annual Windham tree lighting event.

Local scouting groups spread holiday warmth, with members of Boy Scout Troop 266 tending the bonfire in front of Windham Town Hall and members of Girl Scout Troop 11007 collecting hats, scarves and mittens for their less-fortunate neighbors.

Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived to the town's municipal complex with much fanfare before sunset, escorted by the Salem Blue Devils marching band and color guard as they whirled out of the fire station's parking lot, crossing Route 111 with a police escort and arriving to great dozens of eager children outside Windham Town Hall.

As dusk fell on Town Common, a collective gasp drowned out caroling middle school students as the commons was set aglow with thousands of sparkling lights.
