Volunteers needed for SAU19 superintendent search in Goffstown, New Boston

GOFFSTOWN — The SAU 19 Superintendent Search Committee needs volunteers from New Boston and Goffstown.

So far, only one parent from Goffstown has volunteered to participate, and the deadline to file a letter of interest is Tuesday.

.
The committee will be involved in the selection of two to three finalists for the superintendent position, and recommendations will be submitted to the SAU 19 School Board for consideration. The process will include focus groups and committee meetings running from January to March.
..
The committee will consist of SAU administrators Mary Claire Barry and Kate Magrath; two Goffstown School Board members and two New Boston School Board members; one teacher and one administrator from New Boston Central School; two professional staff members, one support staff and two administrators from Goffstown schools; one New Boston parent and two Goffstown parents; and one Goffstown community member. Dian McCarthy, chairman of the Goffstown School Board, will serve as chairman.
..
Volunteers will be randomly selected at the New Boston and Goffstown school board meetings on Dec. 12 and Dec. 16, respectively. But the committee needs more volunteers to come forward.

“If need be, because this is so critical, we’ll have to go back to the drawing board. We were hoping to pick participants at the school boards’ meetings. We are hopeful we’ll get more volunteers to sign up, if not the committee will have to get together and see what the next step will be,” said Magrath, SAU 19 human resources director,.
..
During the focus groups, the public and school staff will have an opportunity to offer opinions on their preference for the candidates’ priorities and qualifications.

“The New Hampshire School Board Association is assisting in much of the process, so they’ll be handling the focus groups,” said Magrath. “So, if people don’t want to be on the committee, they can have their voices heard on the focus groups.”
..
The volunteer selection process is similar to one used during the Mountain View Middle School principal search, said Magrath.

“We put the names on a sheet of paper and put them into a hat, so people are aware that names only go into the pool once. We want to be as transparent as possible in the process,” said Mcgrath.
..
The job posting for a new superintendent has not been published. A list of candidates will be submitted to the committee and the SAU by the New Hampshire School Board Association.

Those interested in volunteering for the SAU 19 Superintendent Search Committee must submit a letter of interest, with the following information: Why do you want to be on the Superintendent Search Committee? For parents: What schools are your children attending? For New Boston/Goffstown staff: What is your position? How long have you worked for an SAU 19 school?
..
All submissions should confirm the volunteer’s availability to attend about 10 to 15 evening meetings through March 10.

Letters of interest must be received by Magrath, via email to kmagrath@goffstown.k12.nh.us with the subject line of “SSC Volunteer” or by postal mail at Attn: Superintendent Search Committee Volunteers, c/o SAU 19 Human Resources, 11 School St., Goffstown 03045.
