Hampton woman, 75, hit by truck in Newington in serious condition

NEWINGTON - A 75-year-old Hampton woman is in serious condition at a Portsmouth hospital after she was struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of the Crossings at Fox Run Friday evening.

Police identified the injured woman as Ellen Busch.

According to Sgt. Tim Stuart, Busch was crossing the road in the crosswalk in front of Old Navy shortly after 7 p.m. when she was hit by a truck driven by Christopher Denen, 52, of York, Maine. Denen was driving east on the inner perimeter road of the mall at the time.

Busch, who was unconscious at the scene, was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries, and was hospitalized in serious condition on Saturday, Stuart said.

No charges had been filed as of Saturday. "At this point, there's no indication that speed was a factor," Stuart said. There also was no indication that alcohol was a factor, he said, but "everything is still under investigation."
