Windham getting in the spirit with tree-lighting festivities

WINDHAM — Windham residents will ring in the season this Saturday at the town's annual tree-lighting ceremony.

The festivities will take place on Windham Town Common from 3 to 5 p.m., according to Recreation Director Cheryl Haas.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by fire truck at approximately 3 p.m., accompanied by the Windham High School Marching Band and Color Guard.

Photographs with Santa will be available inside the town's Cable Studio immediately following, while local Girl Scout troops will offer holiday craft-making upstairs at Windham Town Hall.

Area Boy Scouts will keep watch over a bonfire in front of Town Hall, while the Windham Community Band will play holiday tunes inside a heated tent from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

At 4:45 p.m., children from the Windham Middle School chorus will lead the audience in caroling around the Town Common gazebo, with the tree to be lit at dusk.

A free spaghetti supper at the nearby Windham Presbyterian Church will follow.

Windham Police Chief Gerald Lewis reminded residents that North Lowell Road would be closed to all traffic between Route 111 and Londonderry Road during the holiday festivities.

Lewis urged those planning to attend the event to arrive before 3 p.m., as parking in the area will be limited. Those arriving late will be allowed to park in the lot at nearby Fences Unlimited, located on Route 111.
